Help write the Hunter Writers’ Centre next chapter. Your gift keeps workshops, residencies and Lighthouse Arts open to all, so cost is never the reason someone stops creating.

Hunter Writers' Centre is where stories begin.

This year we celebrate two milestones. Newcastle Poetry Prize turns 45, having championed generations of Australian poets. Lighthouse Arts turns five, having hosted hosted more than 700 writers, artists and musicians at our coastal home on Whibayganba-Nobbys Headland.

For nearly 30 years, Hunter Writers’ Centre has cultivated a storytelling and literary culture in the Hunter region and beyond, grounded in community, equity and craft. Now we are ready for the next chapter, and we’d like you to help write it.

With your support, we provide pathways, spaces, and opportunities to develop, support and celebrate the diverse voices of our region. Every donation, no matter how small, makes a difference.

Lighthouse Arts: Celebrating five years of stories

Five years ago, Hunter Writers’ Centre first invited artists from the Hunter and around the country to undertake residencies at Nobbys Lighthouse, on Whibayganba/Nobbys Headland in Mulubinba/Newcastle. They came to create diverse, impactful and truthful stories.

Over five years, Lighthouse Arts has supported:

  • Over 750 artist residencies
  • 30+ onsite exhibitions
  • 35,000+ visitors a year to the headland
