In 2019, HWC members shared their work

via Live Readings at Newcastle Art Gallery

Due to COVID-19 we replaced this opportunity with Writing Contests.

2019 – Participate or Spectate

First Wednesday of each month at Newcastle Art Gallery

3 – 5pm

Join us for Ekphrastic live readings. Ekphrastic writing is from Ancient Greece and is a literary piece that responds to a work of art. Your piece of writing should reflect and capture the ‘action’ of your favourite artwork in the current exhibition.

We welcome poems, fiction, personal essays and we invite you to present at 3pm on the first Wednesday of the month at Newcastle Art Gallery. The event will be open to the public and promoted by the gallery as part of their program of events.

In 2019 we gathered to share our writing during the following exhibitions:

July – James Drinkwater exhibition the sea calls me by name

August – acknowledging Grief Awareness month – in the gallery

September – readings in response to the Kilgour Prize 2019

October:  readings in response to Robert Dickerson: Off the Canvas

December: readings in response to Wish You Were Here: landscapes from the collection

At some of the live readings we will offer cash prizes.
