Join award-winning author Lesley Gibbes as she spotlights four popular picture book text types-

  • The Bedtime Story
  • Concept Book
  • Rhythm & Rhyme Commercial Text
  • Narrative Non Fiction
You’ll delve into the specifics of each text type, learning the unique qualities and industry expectations for all four through discussion, examples and hands-on writing activities.

Spotlight Picture Books is appropriate for both emerging and experienced writers.

Lesley Gibbes

Lesley Gibbes is an award-winning author of more than fourteen books for children. Her books include CBCA Honour Book Scary Night, CBCA Shortlisted Book Searching For Cicadas, Fluke, A Boat Of Stars (poetry anthology) and the hilarious chapter book series Fizz.

Lesley’s writing has received acknowledgement from The Children’s Book Council of Australia, The Royal Zoological Society of NSW, The Wilderness Society, Speech Pathology Australia, International School Libraries Network Singapore and the American Booksellers Association.

Lesley is a popular presenter at the Australian Writers’ Centre where she runs the self-paced, online course for adults, Writing Chapter Books for 6-9 year olds. She has an extensive background in Primary Education with sixteen years teaching experience and is a sort after school presenter.
