Do you have lived experience of disability, a passion for storytelling and the arts, and experience advocating for yourself and others?
Hunter Writers’ Centre is seeking Expressions of Interest from people interested in participating in Hunter Writers’ Centre’s Disability and Inclusion Advisory Group to advise on implementing the Disability and Inclusion Action Plan 2024 – 2026. HOW IT WORKS
The Advisory Group comprises of four community members who have lived experience of disability and a passion for storytelling and the arts.
The Group meets three times a year, in person and online, to discuss strategies to improve access and inclusion for Hunter Writers’ Centre programs.
Initial meetings will focus on reviewing the Disability and Inclusion Action Plan and successive meetings will consider ways to put the Plan into action, with a focus on the following areas:
- Safe and accessible programs
- Positive and inclusive representation
- Staff training and education
- Measurements of improvement and success
Group members are paid a stipend of $200 per meeting for their participation.
Membership is for two years, beginning July 2024.

WHO WE ARE LOOKING FOR
We are seeking passionate community members who have:
- Lived experience of disability in the Hunter,
- An interest in creativity, storytelling, and the arts,
- Experience speaking up for themselves and their community,
- An ability to work well in a group and contribute positively in an advisory capacity,
- Some knowledge of Hunter Writers’ Centre programs,
- Are aged 18 years or older
- An ability to commit to meetings for a two-year period, including the following meetings for 2024:
- Wednesday 31 July 2024.
- Wednesday 30 October 2024.
You do not need to be a Hunter Writers’ Centre member to participate. Membership will be provided complimentary if you are accepted in the Advisory Group.
